Magnetic adhesive tape – versatile in its use

If you want a simple, adaptable way to attach items to metal surfaces, then magnetic adhesive tapes (also known as magnetic adhesive strips, self-adhesive magnetic strips or adhesive magnetic tape) are a suitable solution. Apply the self-adhesive magnetic tape to the back of signs, marker pens and other objects. As if by magic, the items will then adhere to ferromagnetic surfaces, such as a refrigerator or a metal shelf. Thanks to magnetic force, you can remove the objects from the mounting surface whenever necessary and without leaving any residue.

In our online shop, you can choose from self-adhesive magnetic tape in various widths ranging from 10 to 150 mm. The right width depends on the size and weight of the objects you wish to attach. Differences between neodymium and ferrite magnetic adhesive tapes

The strontium ferrite magnetic adhesive tapes n our assortment are anisotropically magnetised. As a result, the ferrite magnetic adhesive tapes are very strong and, compared with standard products, have a higher adhesive force of 102 g/cm². The self-adhesive properties of this product come from an adhesive strip applied to one side.

In our online shop, we also offer high-performance neodymium magnetic adhesive tape with 3M adhesive. With an adhesive force of 450 g/cm², four times greater than that of ferrite-based products, it delivers exceptional holding power. This makes adhesive magnetic tapes made of neodymium ideal for particularly demanding mounting applications. For example, use self-adhesive neodymium magnetic tape to secure heavier decorative items. To meet the high demands placed on its adhesive force, the neodymium adhesive tape features premium 3M adhesive, allowing the self-adhesive magnetic tape to firmly adhere even to heavier objects.

Surfaces suitable for magnetic adhesive tape

As a general rule, the surface where you intend to apply the tape must be clean, dry and free of dust. In addition, self-adhesive magnetic tape adheres best to smooth surfaces. The smoother the surface, the better the adhesive on the magnetic strip can bond with it. Exceptions include surfaces made of plastics such as polypropylene (PP) and polyethylene (PE), as well as powder-coated surfaces. On these materials, the adhesive may detach under load conditions.

On these materials, as well as on textured or rough surfaces, you should first test whether the desired level of adhesion is achieved. Frequently asked questions about magnetic adhesive tape

Can magnetic adhesive tape adhere to other magnetic adhesive tape?

Yes, our magnetic adhesive tapes can be combined with one another. You do not need two different tapes with different polarities to do so. In the case of self-adhesive magnetic strips made of ferrite, the magnetisation runs in stripes, with north and south poles alternating in close succession. Thanks to these properties, two self-adhesive magnetic tapes, when combined correctly, will adhere perfectly to one another. Start by attaching the adhesive side of the first tape in the desired location or to an object. Then place the second tape on top of it, you must rotate it by 180 degrees so that the magnetic poles align correctly. Lastly, peel off the protective film and attach the object you want to secure. This way, you can join two non-magnetic objects together effortlessly and with a precise fit.

How long can you store magnetic adhesive tape?

The minimum shelf life of magnetic adhesive tape before use is approximately 6 months. Store self-adhesive products away from UV radiation and avoid fluctuations in temperature and humidity, as these factors affect the durability of the adhesive. If stored for longer than 6 months, the adhesive may dry out and lose its bonding strength.
When self-adhesive magnetic tape is applied correctly, the adhesive bond remains secure over the long term.

Can I use self-adhesive magnetic tape outdoors?

Magnetic adhesive tape is not suitable for permanent outdoor use. Over time, UV radiation causes the material and adhesive of self-adhesive magnetic strips to become brittle and break. However, magnetic adhesive tape made of ferrite does not rust and can withstand temporary exposure to moisture. Neodymium magnetic tapes, on the other hand, are not water-resistant, which means the plastic-bonded material can develop rust. Rust reduces the tape’s adhesive force and can leave marks on surfaces.

Can I remove magnetic adhesive tape without leaving any residue??

Yes, self-adhesive magnetic tapes can be removed. However, we cannot guarantee that this can be done without leaving any residue. The adhesive tape is designed for permanent attachments, which is why the adhesive layer bonds strongly to the mounting surface. Consequently, depending on the duration of use and the type of surface, adhesive residue may remain upon removal. Please also note that delicate surfaces, such as wallpaper, painted or varnished finishes, may be damaged.

Tip from the supermagnete team: Self-adhesive products are easier to remove with a simple trick: warm the adhesive with a hairdryer and then slowly peel off the tape. However, please keep in mind that magnetic tapes are not heat-resistant and will be damaged by the heat from the hairdryer. As a result, you will not be able to reuse the tapes.
